If you have attended the Fermentation Festival at Market in previous years, then you already know that it’s a fun and education -al day.  If you have never been, you are probably wondering what the fuss is about – fermentation??  Join us this week to learn about the many benefits of fermented foods and beverages (see the sidebar), to sample the variety of tastes, and to either purchase some fermented products or learn to make them yourself.

Among the afternoon’s activities, Harvest Market will be sampling tangy sauerkraut, Market Manager Abby will be demonstrating kimchi, and the meat guy, William Rawstrom, from Maiale will offer “Fermentation 101” and its use in preserved meats.

Certainly there will be the usual panopoly of wonderful fresh and local foods that our vendors bring every week, highlighted by some special fermented products.

Wander the market enjoying the sights and also the sounds of The Durkan Brothers music. Then cross State Street to the MEET THE MAKERS event, where you may sample “adult” fermented beverages and artisan cheeses, while listening to the lively music of Scott & Steve from The Sin City Band. MEET THE MAKERS runs from 4:30 to 8:00 pm.

Meet reps and sample Flickerwood Wines, Frecon Farms hard ciders,  craft brewers Argilla, Forest & Main, and Round Guys, plus spirits by Art in the Age and Quaker City Mercantile and Cheeses from Amazing Acres Dairy, Birchrun Hills Farm, Doe Run Dairy, Highland Farm Sheep, and Yellow Springs Goat Dairy.

Tickets are only $10 for this great evening and may be purchased at the gate or online.
